Paintin' the Schoolyard!

Started working with MACE, CUBA, and Big Anthony on a community art project; we're out to paint the schoolyard at Aptos Middle School in SF! We're on board with full on support from both students and faculty.. The school has a concept of painting the barren concrete walls with positive words and collaborative imagery developed by the students- and we volunteered to bring this project to life through spraycan. At times I felt like we were the ones bein' schooled, because these kids are killin' it with cans!, seriously. Happy to be on board with this as a guest artist. Not to mention, the view from that San Franciscan hilltop is gorgeous! Here's a peak at the past two weeks:

Painted this floor in John Velasquez Salon of SF a few months back with the help my little brother Warren and friend Bryan, thanks guys! It was a grueling 8 hours of work on a hardwood floor, with the smell of sharpies and paint ripe in the air... fueled by many cups of coffee and cookies.. we were an exhausted hungry bunch when nighttime rolled around! I wonder if my brother will ever make it out to the big city again to spend time with his older sis?... hmm.

After I got back from the convention, my diet consisted of lots of pedialyte, and three days of potato soup. I finally beat that nasty flu and am back at work, ready to rock!

National Convention this week in Seattle

This week will be a busy one for the artists at Sacred Rose, as we prepare to fly out to Seattle for the National Convention. If you're in the Seattle area, come get tattooed! There are a few appointments left.. word on the street is that KC Angel will be rocking zombie tattoos all weekend, while Daniel Herlihy and Karen Roze will be rockin' the traditional and Japanese style tattoos. My plans for Seattle are to join the crowd of spectators, attend a seminar or two, keep it together at our booth, and possible take home a souvenir tattoo from one of the world renown artists at this show.. all in four days!

Peralta Mural FINISHED!!!

I am excited to announce that the mural on Peralta at 26th street in West Oakland is now complete! The turnout of people was great, and both the channel 2 and channel 7 news stations were there. I had a lot of fun working with Mark Bode, Marley, and Toad on this project, we make a great team! After the mural stuff, we went to Louis the Pie Queen for lunch to celebrate... and wow, it was delicious!

Friday night I had the pleasure of tattooing Sunshine; I am responsible for the script lettering below both of her knees... ouch!! She did great though, sat like a champ & even did a guest appearance in the Sacred Rose Tattoo commercial while waiting for the stencils to dry. All in all, it was a fun day. If you don't know... I like tattooing fancy script lettering!!! Thanks again Sunshine!

RECAP: I spent the last three days climbing up and down a ladder with a swollen ankle, wearing a respirator that was not meant to fit my face, rocking out on drums, endlessly laughing with great friends, getting tattooed, & drinking lots, & I mean lots, of espresso... all in between painting a 200 square ft indoor mural!!!

I have to say, it has been a memorable weekend.

Hello!!! A lot has happened since my last post, so here's a long overdue update on what's going on...

For those of you in the bay: Peralta Mural Project is almost finished!!!!! Check it out if you haven't yet, it covers half a block worth of walls surrounding the CASS metal recycling center. Last Friday Mark Bode brought out some unseen sketches of his father, Vaughn Bode, and put them up for all to ponder. Some of these include "THE MAN", "SCREW BOSS", and my all time favorite, "DR. ELECTRIC" and the "ELECTRIC BEE."

This weekend:
I am finishing up a wall I started painting on Saturday at Chico Kush Smoker's Gallery in Chico, CA. It's a big project for one person (17' x 12' ), so I have my right hand girl helping me out... thanks Jodi!!!!! It's a psychedelic alice in wonderland theme...very appropriate for a smokeshop! I'll have pictures posted soon.

Upcoming Events:
soon to be announced show at the Medicine Agency of photographs taken in the Tenderloin neighborhood of SF by Sean Desmond. Prints were made of one of the photographs and handed out to various artists as a part of a collaboration project. I was honored to be a part of this collective and painted a print for the show. Today Mark Bode & I started the Peralta Mural project.... a huge section of panels that run down the entire block! About a week ago Mark came up with the design & we've gone through much brainstorming on how to attack this massive stretch of walls, the conclusion we came to today was just that; ATTACK!!! You can see what the walls looked like before we came along on google maps via satellite view, now isn't that nifty? Here is a sneak peak at what those walls are on their way to becoming... keep in mind this is only one part of a much larger picture!!!!! more on friday...

I would like to mention that all of the flash is outlined with Talens black using a speedball pen & the colors are brushed with Dr. Ph Martin ink onto hotpress watercolor paper. Just a little note on the ingredients!
